My name is Timothy Smith. I am starting this blog because I believe that learning should be flexible, adaptable, and personalized for each student. This is particularly important for students who don’t succeed in a traditional school environment or for students who are at risk of dropping out of school.
Many times, students get lost or feel left out in traditional public schools. These schools are often rigid in structure with teachers delivering a set curriculum and school schedules that include six classes in a semester-based format. Students are expected to keep up with each class in the format in which it is delivered, without modification, much like a factory-based model that is meant to be the same for all learners, delivered in the same way, and without consideration of individual student needs.
My goal is to introduce flexible and innovative educational learning models. There are so many ways to customize and personalize learning for students. All students should have equitable access to learning. Flexible learning should help all students gain a solid foundation for their education. Instruction should be designed specifically for the needs of at-risk students so that they can catch up with their peers and get on track to graduate from high school.
